The thing about Setapak.

Haih I know there are going to be repercussions if i start tying away now la cause this is something i had ranted alot about and.. surprise! I still got more isi kandungan to rant about.

But kenot tahan okay.
So yeah, if you are busy/planning to get busy, you'd better just bugger off cause apparently something tells me this post might just get loooong. Need to get it off my system now before I head off and start mugging company law.
Right. I think I got my point across now.

Okay what I wanna rant about to today is about the stories of setapak @ the place I am staying now @ one of the most dangerous places in KL.
Anyway here are some stories about the close calls which people around me have gotten themselves into.

************************
Lets start with the most recent story I have received from my ex housemate. Apparently, he just came back to this area to yum char and gotten himself robbed 800 bucks. When the robber wanted to take his wallet away from him, he'd thrown his wallet as far as possible from the spot where he was standing and ran in the opposite direction.

Good thinking.

... or perhaps not. Apparently the robber wasnt amused by this random act of gusto. Probably thought the fellow was trying to be funny. And lo behold! My friend was awarded with a big fat scar on his arm now. Kena slashed for nothing wtf.

And you know what, I was actually invited out to yum char also. But you see, I was back in hometown so I was safe. Cant imagine if I actually went out to yum char also lah.
*shudder*

*************************************

Next story revolves around another friend. Now, aimee's advice about dressing down to make one less attractive so that rapists wont want to waste their energy to rape may actually be proved to be nothing but a theory.

You see, this friend involved, she was really dressed down- in a t-shirt and shorts.

Story goes, when she was about to enter her house, this guy appeared and told her he was a polis and wanted to see her ic.
Now , seeing this guy was wearing casual clothing, my friend suspected something and asked to see his polis identification card. Needless to say, the guy panic-ed. And tried to drag her into her own house.
Thankfully the neighbour heard the racket and came out to check.
Needless to say, the guy fled. Dont worry he still had his pants on. Friend was safe thank goodness.
And you know whats the most freakiest thing?! The neighbour actually knew the bogus police- wannabe-rapist.

WTF. Six degrees of separation theory. Proven.

Which leads all of us to conclude that it was a planned attempted. Not a random act of horny-ness as a result of tongkat ali coffee. Or whatever people eat/drink to get themselves turned on these days.
**************************
Okay, next story is about some unlucky fellow i know who always seems to get robbed each time he purchases a new handphone. Not the cheap kind mind you.
So far, he has been robbed 2 times in 6 months.

Karma can be such a bitch sometimes. So i remembered people telling him to pray more. Uh, get blessing from Guan-yin niang niang and in return carry around a piece of laminated "fu" you know, the yellow pieces of paper people carry around to protect themselves? Sorry, I have no idea what you call that in english.
**************************
Next, another story of another exhousemate. Actually happened before I shifed in into my old house. But its kinda hilarious so I just share with you guys.
He was walking back home after buying some stuff from the nearby houses. Then this malay guy came up suddenly and pointed a penknife at him.

and guess what? He fought back.
Dont know if its the wisest thing to do actually.
And as the result of the tussle, he got his shirt torn off. Yeah, so dramatic huh?

But then again, he managed to hang on to his wallet and handphone.
So what I heard is that when he came back home, all the housemates were like

"dude, where's your shirt?!!!!!!"

LOL. So he ran back half naked.
********************************

Another friend was robbed of her handphone while she was sleeping. And surprise surprise, the theif was so smart, he/she/they took the charger as well!

And maybe to supplement the next's months phone bill, they took off with a jar of coins as well.
wtf!?

*****************************

Now, normally we hear of snatch thieves, we'd assume them to be skinny dark yong sui indonesian immigrants. And that their favourite mode of transport is the same with the mat rempits.
Not necessarily.

Someone I know got her bag snatched by a wira.
.....

See, the snatch thieves now are so rich they have already upgraded to wiras.

*******************************
Next is a story about me being left alone at home once cause some people were off playing badminton. And I dont really like badminton. Cant really see the point in getting all sweaty chasing over a shuttercock. So there I was busy onlining my time away when I heard a knock on the door.

Opened it to see a malay guy telling me someone stole shoes from my house.
First thought that crossed my mind was "all we keep outside is slippers"

And so I told him "nevermindlah"
Malay guy: "but you gotta check"
Me: "seriously, all we keep outside is slippers"
Malay guy: "but I saw the theif took off with a pair of nike"
Me: "pasar malam one kononnya. Dont worry real nike is inside"
Malay guy: "... but u still gotta check. Open the door and check bah"
Me: "I dont think I need to lah. Its nothing really."
Malay guy: "you really should open the door"
Me: (getting frustrated) "seriously, its ok. Nevermind."
So I went into my room and fetched my phone. At that time only did I realise that the guy wasnt alone, he had a friend on motor outside and there was a white van parked outside the gate.

WHITE VAN. Like TVB drama. You know the ones they use to kidnap people?

Must always be white van one.
When I came out, and started dialling the numbers, the guy told me "takapa lah" and went off with the motor and van.
like entourage like that. sial.

Was kinda blur, considering it was my first year then.
Considering, I was lucky I was safe that night. When I tell people about it, they told me I was lucky. A lucky fool. If I had located my keys (see, this is why you never should have keys in the living room) and opened the door, they would have took off with the 7 or 8 computers in the house. And perhaps even me. Considering the TVB white van.
.........
Thankfully, some of my housemates friends came by and me, afraid of those freaky malay guys coming back again, went out for dinner with the bunch of them.

When four of them offered to pay for my drink when the bill came..(maybe I look somehow traumatised) only did I realise, that I was the only girl.

One of the weirdest night of my life.
Oh yeah, I choose to pay for the drink myself.

*****************************
Oh yeah, not only money get stolen. Sometimes even clothes. I had heard of people losing levis jeans, pasar malam stuff and even weirder.. underwear.

Haha black ones somemore. Kinky.

There's this housemate of my friend who was complaining about how some this thief took off with her bra. Not the cheap one mind you. But quality bra with great support. Triumph wtf.
So.. I get it. Theifs do bra shopping for their wives at night.
The world is so wrong lah.
***************************

And flashers. Must not forget about them. Some unfortunate girls have fell victim to them. They are so brave they can just WALK UP to ones house and just start erm doing their business. Preferably they target houses where most of the inhabitants are girls.

Thus, never ever move into a house where most of the people staying there are all girls. It attracts flashers.

*************************
I dont really see much coming from the information I just divulged. But nevertheless, I just wanted everyone to know that these complains about this area being dangerous arent just empty talk based on unfounded facts and stories. They really do happen. Almost everyday. These are just the stories I had picked up.

If I actually opened my eyes and ears more. There are more. Stories of people I dont not know and never heard before. Names connected to faces I have never seen before.

But I choose to tell the stories of those I know and have hear first hand account of.

Everyone meet weechookeong aka ah choi.

MP for wangsa maju.

From keadilan.

AH CHOI PLS DO SOMETHING!

(haha we call him ah choi cause he has an uncanny resemblance to one of my classmate named-yeah you guessed it right- Ah Choi)

Anyway, this MP also has a blog http://www.weechookeong.blogspot.com/

Yay to bloggers.

^^

Now let us spam his blog. muahahahaha.

Sorry la exam makes people do funny things. Including (thinking of) spamming our local MP's blog.

Amazingly, it isnt even my birthday YET.

Last year, I celebrated it the first time on the 13th of January.

Dont start wishing me happy birthday ah.
I am still 19.
I dont care what my housemates say about being 20 after I blow the two candles and ate the cake.

Still a teenager!
People, let me enjoy the remainder of my teenage life in peace ya.

Pavillion, A photoblog

As obvious as day, this post will be full of pretty pictures. Cause I am lazy and feeling not very particularly opinated today. Yes, it is a rarity to catch me in such moods, appreciate it.

Due to curiousity, me and some friends went to Pavillion, one of the lastest addition to KL's upper class shopping scene.

Btw, I didnt add the glare in the picture above =) It was all naturally so pretty. Oh yeah, taken at the Bukit Bintang entrance.

Nak masuk atau tidak?

nice interior.
You'd probably wonder why I bolded the word 'upper class shopping'. This place boosts brands which I have never seen before in KL. Name a famous international brand and I'd bet they have a flagship store here.

But still, the place is kinda empty as many stores are still under renovation. Cause this is Pavillion, where everything is so pretty cause rich investors can afford to dump serious cash into interior designing.
I mean, look at the toilets here!
I was trying not to look conspicuous.
Full lenght mirrors. Soap. Tissues. Clean toilets. and hardworking toilet cleaners.
Damn, gotta love Pavillion's toilets.
This aint no fancy restaurant. Its just an ice cream bar. Dont believe spot the giant ice cream cone in the picture la. I tried to lick it =)
The place where we had our dinner. Pasta Mania
I like the idea of a pocket menu. The waiters have it good here. No need to run up and down. Cause its self service here and menus are tiny brochures which customers can steal.

We can select out own pasta here. Linguini's a pasta! And I just thought its a cheesy name which Pixar came out for the fake chef!

What I ordered.Bacon and mushroom pasta and soup of the day (mushroom soup)

nothing special. Too much tomato paste kills the tastebuds. the mushroom soup is terrible. It was bitter. Yes, we all agreed on that point. For goodness sake never order their mushroom soup.

The rest of the food? Leaves much to be desired. Beware of their cheesy pasta. You might be in cheesy heaven for several wonderful bites. Then everything goes downhill from there. Yes, even a cheese lover like me can get slightly cheese-phobic after trying it. Too much cream.

Recommended to the brave.

The price? Not too over the top but not to be eaten daily as well. Affordable la. More of less within secret recipe's range.

In the end of the day, we didnt buy anything. Haha. just go there for sightseeing and eating. Cause the things there are damn expensive for a student like me ok?

I swear I am geting better at taking holy pictures. And at editing them.

Anyway, Happy Hari Raya people!

Shards of realisation

These are unusual senarios I have woken up to
1) Shaken up by yelling and screaming of my sister saying "Sam's STUCK in the window grill!!!!"
2) Half suffocating cause someone dumped a wet handkerchief on my face.
3) To: "Kayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Harry Potter 7!!!!"
4) To Sam licking my face with her horrible morning dogbreath
5) To the tune of the "mickey mouse march"

Yesterday, I woke up to the sounds of broken glass.
Cause I accidently kicked the panes (window nearby mah) and the whole damn thing slipped and.....you know.

Anyway, after the mess was cleaned up, my roommate noticed that all the windows were opened. As she remembered, she was the one who shut all the windows last night.

oh fuck.

So she checked her purse and found that she was only left with a measly one ringgit plus. HUH? She had tens the day before!

Oh double fuck.

The total amount she lost: RM40 plus. And a touch and go card.

Okla, not so fucked up.

Then we realised her missing crystal necklace which she lost several weeks ago might not be an 'accident' at all.

oh fuck

Welcome. To. Setapak.

Where mata-mata mata's are probably too congested with mata tahi.
Where occurances such as this is pretty normal.
Where politicians only come and visit when students start dropping dead or nearly get raped.
Where security is just a WORD. People dont act on it.
Where future recurrances of crimes are just waiting to happen.

Perhaps if someone dropped dead tomorrow, people would just notice what an eyesore safety in this place can be.Anyway, I think they would just notice for awhile. And then proceed to forget the whole issue anyway.

After all, Malaysians are like Dory. They have short term memories.

A long journey which felt short
Semester four. A mix of headache and joy.

Four semesters have passed out of the six I've signed up for in my diploma year.
Four out of six.

Please simplify 4/6
4/6 = 2/3

This means that two thirds of my diploma year has already passed.
Like wow. I never expected time to fly so fast. So swiftly it passed, eluding realisation. In a few blinks, I am already bidding a fond goodbye to semester four.

To sum this semester up is not easy. I had my fair share of times when I feel like I couldnt cope with everything life has decided to toss at me. Sometimes I had to reconsider the choices I had made. And for a few weeks regret had constantly haunted me, following me closely in my footsteps. Issues were aplenty. Tempers were short. People were snappy and walked around looking like dying ducks on the verge of their last quacks.

But hell we survived.
I survived semester four.
The rumored toughest semester.
Congratulations to myself!
Congratulations to second year tarcians!

To explain everything in words is impossible. I probably wont do myself justice. Thus may the pictures do half the story telling =)

Semester of cakes

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Humans must be very fertile from May to August. If not why are there so many babies borned during this period?

I like to sum this semester as the semester of cakes and birthdays, preferably Secret Recipe. Celebrations were aplenty. Money flew as well. For those who are born during this period and I havent wish you happy birthday yet, I am sorry. I dedicate this post to you guys.

happy birthday to aimee, angelin, mei wei, whatever, wilson, chuan, kiwi, ah gong, happy, char siew, yvonne, yan shan, candy, kah poh, wei lih, alvin, boon king, pui yan, ka cheng, lay jing, ghee how and all may to september babies!

Semester of events

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This semester's college events have been numerous. TT night, OO night, Kung Fu night, convocation of seniors congrats!, Orientation week, society day, PR health campaign, and merdeka celebrations.

hmmph. I feel like such a keh poh now.

Semester of killer assignments and presentations
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Headaches were caused. Egos and opinions clashed. Tempers were short. People were slightly mad. Quarrels broke. Friendships were put to test. People were tired, frustrated and angry.

Six subjects.
Six presentations. since I had to do the english one twice
Six written report same reason as above
Two assignments MIS and BMP
mid terms...

What a hellula headaches.
But we survived!!

Semester of activities

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Meet the people who have so much dedication that they never fail to amaze me sometimes. I admit I got lost somewhere along this semester. And how you guys, being such sports, put up with me walking around like I am already three feet under. Six activities. Nineteen people. We went through hell and survived.

With the passing of my exams, I bid farewell to thee, semester four. You have been a hell of a emotional roller coaster. My source of pride as well of pain. Of vivid memories.

And to reward myself surviving this semester's exams and studying like mad, I now am planning to reward myself by...

reading more!

hahaha! I am such a nerd.
ps: I borrowed the book for tarc library, which is really loaded with alot of good books =) Some are pretty new as well.

Happy Holidays people!~

A lucky combination of numbers
= wrong number

Today after lunch, I received a call from an annoymous 012 number. Slightly irritated due to the fact that the stupid call was made when I was in the process of picking up my next spoonful of glorious tau fu fah, I tried to ignore it for awhile, but heck my roommate's friend shoved the phone into my hands.

So I answered the call.

Imagine my frustration when the person on the other side of the connection was busy talking. Not to me, but to someone else with them.

hmmph.
then it struck me that the guy must have not locked his handphone keypad, cause he dont seem to have any idea that a call was being made.

Amused, I passed the phone to my roommate and her friend.
then I passed it to my other housemate and we listened on their conversation as the third party.

Eventually we got bored cause apparently the people were normal office people talking about boring office things. Then my housemate suggested that we play a little joke on the stranger.

We'll yell into my phone until he hears us.

And so we took turns yelling things like "hello!! Listen! Listen to your phone lah" "oi! Your phone!!!" at the top of our lungs. Until...

Guy at the other end asked the lady he was talking to "eh, is it me or do you hear someone yelling?"

hahahahaha!
the moral of the story: Lock your keypad.

50 years of.... what?

In a burst of pure Malaysian semangat yesterday, me, my housemates and some ex-housemates headed off to celebrate Merdeka in the golden triangle.

Before that, our wallets got slaughtered by Planet Hollywood(the Lot 10 one). Very expensive la wei wtf. Before going in, please make sure you have at least 50 bucks in your pocket or face the risk of washing dishes through the night =(

But hey, the food was great! The deco was very interesting and pretty. For the occasion, they dressed the place in colors of red and blue. Even the food came with little Jalur Gemilangs! very merdeka-ish. Pity it wasnt the night when Jacklyn Victor was performing. And I had my first taste of bloody mary!

Supposed to share this with my roommate, but she got quite sick of the smell after a few sips. I ended up drinking the whole thing. My opinion? Bloody Mary= Bloody hell. It tastes like tomato juice spinkled with too much salt. And the celery isnt helping at all.

Note to myself: Get drunk on Kopi peng, which is cheaper and delicious. No more Bloody disgusting Mary for me.

The girls. Cause the guys went shopping. Wtf.

Mickey only has four fingers. Very very distubing la wei.

Pardon the stupid picture. But this mickey has five fingers. Thank goodness.

After that, we initially wanted to countdown at KLCC. Unfortunately, we were told that the celebrations at KLCC were banned. Great! So we decided to walk from KLCC to dataran Merdeka

You know how far is KLCC from Dataran merdeka?
.......
..........

Thank god we managed to catch a last minute bus.

But we didnt reach there in time. So we got as far as Masjid Jamek and stopped there to watch.

We waited.
Counting the time.
And heard the national anthem played.

Then......
nothing happened.

Where are the fireworks?
Apparantly, it is Malaysian culture to be late. This applies even to fireworks now. The fireworks were late an hour.

Madness. An hour!. Most people left after 20 minutes with extremely bengang faces.

Dont say la,the lrt uncle was also pissing mad, giving out announcements through his loud hailer like:

"Semua bunga api dah pergi ke Putrajaya"
"Semua boleh balik tengok bunga api secara siaran tertungga"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH! The tourists just looked puzzled and started complaining in their own language. Probably discussing how to sue tourism malaysia for the information error I think.

But thank goodness we were still around the area at that time and managed to watch it. Why? Cause we had this to amuse ourselves and some tourists:

My new hairstyle makes it seem I have bits of cotton candy stuck on my hair. Poyo betul semua attack me.

After that, before heading home, we noticed something very distubing. Half the people celebrating merdeka were pendatang asings, another quarter are mat rempits and another quarter were normal people like you and me.

Disturbing or not? KLCC was flooded with all the scary indonesian workers.
And KL center was like this:

Get what I mean? Disturbing or not?

So....

Posers. Meet the handbag theif and penggangur.

Totally irrelevant, but...

Taking pictures in the middle of the road cause we cant do that normally without risking our lives.

Squatting in the middle of the road.

Anyway, about weird dressing, we did see a chinese auntie wearing this:

Sorry for the disturbing picture, but the handbag theif has gone seductively sissy. Mei kay the photographer suggested him to bite his fingers.

I remember they asked us a question during the star brats sleepover at muzium negara two years back

"what does freedom mean to you?"
I remembered answering something very stupid, which ironically I forgot.

I think I have a better answer now.

Yesterday, while waiting for the fireworks, I glaced up at weng yan's bunch of baloons which we stole from planet hollywood and came to a conclusion.

Freedom in Malaysia is like a helium filled balloon. Like a balloon tied to a string, we can actually have a taste of freedom. Yet the strings hold us back as we strive to reach greater heights. Like us,the balloon is still floating lower than the actual height it can reach.

Yet, if the balloon is allowed to float too high,it will burst. Cause too much freedom is devastating to any individual. We need to have strings attached to keep us grounded. Floaty people are a nuisance anyway.

What we need is not total freedom. We need longer strings.

A very VERY short horror story

Once upon a happy time just several weeks ago during a perfectly fine evening, my very selamba roommate was busy onlin-ing in my room I was still in in class when she heard some unusual noises.

Confused and a little bewildered, she came to the conclusion that someone was trying to open up the bedroom window that was partially closed. As seen from the picture above

She was afraid yes. But nevertheless, she summoned all her courage and opened the damn window.... only to find herself face to face with an Indonesian man.

After several seconds of staring at each other, my roommate asked the first question which popped into her mind.

You nak buat apa ah?

To which the unimaginative amateur wanna-be thief replied: "Cik nak beli barang ke?"

My roomate slammed the window in his face and headed to the living room. Far far away from the creepy fellow.

I tell you, the world isnt a safe place anymore. Even people who are minding their own business in their own rooms get harrassed by creepy, but very stupid illegal immigrants.

Fuck.

I need a happy meal. NOW
A busy week full of meetings, assignments and snappy people.

Sorryla people for the lack of updates lately. Second year seems to be so much more busier than ever with all the assignments, presentations and activities to help organize.

Gosh, I wish I had more hours each day. You know, to sleep. I havent been getting enough sleep lately. =(

Due to my current state of sleepyness thus causing my head to feel extremely wooly, please excuse me for not trying to attempt a long and insightful entry. Any attempt to do so would probably result in an extremely bimbo entry.

Anyway, yesterday, we celebrated another two in one housemate birthday. AGAIN. Why so many mothers so syok must choose this month to lahir anak?

Revolutionary discovery: Birthday cakes arent baked. They are fried.

Birthday babies people. Happy Birthday Kiwi and Chuan Chuan.

Housemates way of showing our appreciation towards each other.
Friendship stars are so outdated. Middlefinger circles are the best.
need I mention that it was my idea =p

I need to run off to sleep. Good morning, it's four am.

Eyes On Titiwangsa
A beautiful display of lights, cameras and action.

With the hype surrounding the latest addition to Tasik Titiwangsa, I was curious to visit it and see it for myself. okay, so I know it'll be stuck there for a year... but still..

So when Wendy asked me if I wanted go along with her to see it, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. like duh..I still cant drive! Besides that, the prospect of escaping to Sungai Wang aka lalaland before watching fireworks at night at Tasik Titiwangsa was too delicious to be missed. Good opportunities are not to be missed. So I dragged Pui Yan and Yu Bin along as well =P

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Whats there to do when you are not driving? Harass the driver!!

Didnt buy anything much at lalaland though, just that most of the clothes I see that day dont seem to be of my liking. Try as I may,I am unable to grasp the concept as to why there is a need to wear two or three layers of clothes in this sweltering malaysian weather

Armed with the information that the fireworks display would be at 10pm supplied by me. damn paiseh which turned out to be wrong, we only made it out of lalaland where woman of all ages are busy grabbing clothes like they are free.. scary! we escaped at around 9, only to find ourselves stuck in this terrible traffic jam. Totally eluded our recollection that it was a saturday.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Who says KL hardly standstill?

We made it there eventually. So we squeezed ourselves amongst the couples, doting parents with crying babies, camwhores, hawkers, photographers, ah lians, ah bengs and dangerous aunties who dont UNDERSTAND the IDEA of LINING UP. Just because you are older doesnt mean you get to bang people aside to get ahead. siao! If our senior citizens cant even behave themselves, how do you expect the younger generation to act?? Sometimes, old people are so hypocritical.

I also noticed another thing. ALmost EVERYONE has a handphone camera now. Just go to any tourist area and you'll see people snapping away with their camera phones. I noticed alot of people using the motorola Rzar. Yeah so the whole scene is like taken from some sort of maxis advertorial, you know, with EVERYONE snapping photos at everything they see like they have infinite space on their handphone memory cards.Only few people actually used digicams including yours sincerely

The gigantic ferris wheel is so pretty illuminated against the starry night sky. So I snapped like mad.

Snap!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Snap!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

From the inside
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We took sometime to snap at ourselves as well.
images are edited with photoshop to minimize the effects of shooting without flash. Yes, I was dumb enough to forget to set the flash on.

Take one!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Take two!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Take three!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

All together the ride is 12 minutes, $15 for adults the ferris wheel went 5 rounds. So technically thats $3 per round 0.o! $1.20 per minute... okay, I should stop counting.. $8 for kids/seniors/diabled and $100 bucks for the whole gondola with popcorn, dvd player..and godknowwatelse Ridiculous really, why would you wanna watch DVD when you can look at KL lights??

There are things for sale there as well, shiny glow in the dark sticks which kids love so much, flowers valentines ma and food. SUPER EXPENSIVE FOOD MIND YOU. A normal ice-cream cone is 3 bucks la wei!!

By the time me and wendy reached home, it was already almost 1.30 am. o.0!!
We were so blur we missed the klang junction and needed to do a U-turn at kesas. But altogether,it was a rather fun day.

Tiring yes. But fun =)
With an unexpected twist.
