Listening to the mute

Things are happening so fast. So intense. Emotions are running high. And somehow, I find myself feeling detached from it all. Not that I mind really, I'd rather be a spectator. A witness to the brutality of the ugliest mask a person a wear. Of spite. Of grudges. Of pettiness.

I will not let myself be dragged into that whirlwind of pure emotion. A build up of anger. For me, there is no joy in proving the guilty sins of others. Justice will come eventually, in its own form and manner. Why do people like to play judge so much? Does it make them feel better off? More rightous? Or do they just like to taste power?

Sometimes, silence can be more powerful than the greatest war waged.
In circumstances, I actually respect those who choose to remain silent than those who lash out at others.
Sometimes, you do not need to agree with the majority.
Sheeps groupthink. Humans are not sheep. In conclusion, we shouldnt groupthink so much.

We all like to think we are part of something. Something big. Bold and perhaps wonderful. In reality, we arent that much better off anyway.

I am a very opinated person I admit. I used to like to express them like it was a religion. Too much. That eventually, I got a little sick of listening to my own narcisstic voice. And frankly, i think others as well. Cause there are cases where the more you express, the more hollow you feel inside.

I still am very opinated. But I think I have learnt to guard my tongue. To shut up when I should. To have more input than output. Does that make me any wiser? I think not. We have all been gifted with a voice. Mute people have voices too.

And sometimes, if we really take the time listen to the mute, I bet they'd have more worthwhile things to say, more lessons to teach you, than listening to people who speak many tongues.

Double posting. So sue me

Okay. Its not my style to be double posting. But I absolutely had to!

Guess whose noble article was published in the star today? =)

Not exactly what I call my best. But okay for first attempt sending an article. Cause I think there are several entries here which are even better than this one. -.-' And as pointed out by Aimee, there are several grammatical errors. Typos I suspect. But dunno on whose part lah. Tsk tsk.

And I thought I am weird for feeling annoyed everytime I see a grammatical error. (I even edit sms-es which are grammatically wrong. I am THAT anal when it comes to matters such as this)

Oh well, at least it made my day. (Although I have this suspicion that it had made my mom's day more than mine. She was practically glowing with holy motherly pride the whole day) I mean, she wanted to FRAME the piece up. Show off. hahahaha!

Oh well. Til next time la. I need to get started on my Business Management Policies assignment. My chosen company to report on - Starbucks.

I love Starbucks =)

Small world. Big changes

Life has a funny way of dealing with people. Just when you are about to get too comfortable in your little zone of security, it decides to throw a bomb of sorts at you, shocking the hell outta you, jumbling up your emotions and shaking your perspective of things around you.

Sometimes this little bomb of sorts might actually be a nice surprise.
Sometimes, life decides to be a bitch and throw you something nasty instead.

Life decided to throw a bomb on me today.
Thankfully, it is full of laughing gas.

Today, while going on with my usual routine of stalking people's facebook accounts, I noticed I had a friend request. So, duh, I clicked. And I saw this three words.

Thon Ai Lee.

My head went into hyperdrive upon seeing those words. I kept playing with the three words again and again in my head, even saying it out loud just to be sure. And the name rolled out of my mouth like I had said it many many times before, in a sing song way which I had used to call that name teasingly.

My brain was telling me : "No way. Like seriously"
heck, even my eyes were telling me: "No way"
But my gut told me: "Oh yes way!You have GOT to message her"

So I did.
Turned out my gut was right about her.

She called me maggie.
people used to call me maggie.
I'm not really sure how or why they called me that.

And she really did turn out to be my old childhood friend.
She lived down the road where I used to live. So technically, we were neighbours as well as school mates and van mates (used to take the same van to school as well)

Eight years had since passed since we saw each other.
Eight years since we came back here.
Eight years since we lost contact.
Today, we broke that eight year barrier.

I looked at her picture.
Gone was the pigtails. In its place was long straight rebonded hair.
Gone were the awkward teeth. It its place was nice teeth.
Gone was the little girl I remembered. In its place was a leng lui.
Yet something still remained which made me able to distinguish her when I look at her profile pictures closely.

That look on her face.
Somethings never change =)

You know whats the funniest thing?
She's in the same class with my secondary classmate, Nicholas.

I feel so zha dao-ed now.

Regarding the miracle properties of the humble muruku

Trivia of the day
Do you know?
Muruku plays an essential and vital part in husband hunting.

Forget speed dating, advertorials, posting lala pictures of yourself online or stalking people's facebook accounts and kissing their profile pictures. Speed dating causes speed breakups. Advertorials have people claiming to be jack sparrow lookalike when they are just Jack separuh. Lala pictures make you look like a doll with an oversized head, ready to topple when a strong gust of wind blows in your direction. And come on, we all know stalking people's accounts just freaks the living daylights out of people. And kissing your monitor screen will only make it oily.

So buy muruku.

This is why:

Haha WTF. Talk about being desperade.

People of banana republic, the chinese words read "looking for husband" as a translation for the word muruku. Weird right? I asked my classmates for the Muruku's chinese name and no one can provide me with an answer. So perhaps the owner of the shop wasnt really playing a weird joke on the ladies.

Just perhaps.

Those who wanna get lucky, grab a packet of muruku** at your nearest convience stall.... and er... pray?

** prices may vary

The skittle in a jar of M&Ms

People have always said, life is indeed like one big masquerade party. We are constantly leaping from one stage to another, wearing different masks, living out different roles.. all within an entire lifetime.

The world greatest actors strut not in hollywood, but they are around us. Perhaps we are one of them, without knowing it.

Lately I have the unsettling feeling of feeling out of place. Not with everyone. But with certain people. It a gradual thing really. Like mist evaporating into the morning sunshine.

I suppose we have all been there. Just feeling more and more out of place. Despite being there with them for so long, after so many yum char sessions, you feel out of place. And no matter how everyone else looks at your table and see that how happy you guys seem, the reality is very very far away from what is assumed. The understanding, the click just doesnt exist anymore. Perhaps it just wasnt there in the first place. The ideology. The beliefs and the attitudes were too different.

That would explain my title.
Sometimes, I feel like a piece of skittle which has unfortunately landed in a jar of m&ms.

On the outlook, skittles look alot like m&ms. They are all colored in cheery colors of the rainbow.

When you both of them into your mouth, both tell a different story. One melts in your mouth while one makes your mouth melt. Skittles are horrendously sour. But delicious. especially the orange and purple ones.

Quite same. But quite different as well.

Sometimes, dont we all feel like that?
People look and think that "hey, you belong there". Even you yourself might be fooled for awhile. Which makes sense, physically you are there and everything seem to look all fine and dandy. But as you observe closer, you are no more than just a piece of skittle that have suffered the unfortunate fate of landing in a jar of m&ms.

I wanna return to my jar of skittles.

The difference between being here and there
Been there, done that? Hmm...

Looking at my past posts, I have came upon the realisation that hidden-mcky will eventually turn into a photoblog if I dont make some ammendments and start typing some stuff.

Its funny, thinking about it, first my blog is all words, then after getting my camera phone, I added pictures, then this obcession with pictures start and I end up with too many photo entries!!!

aduhai.

With all the discussion about Mr Astronaut, or some people might digress and say that he is NOT an astronaut (cause all he did was sit still during the launch) and label him as a cosmonaut. Even more humiliating would be the term space tourist, cause they say the goverment sponsored his RM 20 million backpack trip to space.

Our politicians must really love coffee alot.Hmm..

So many labels. So many names.
Aiyo. Malaysians ah, very confused bunch of people.

The thing is, sometimes we confuse ourselves with all the publicity about being there. And having done that. Even better is that we have done the task even more brillantly than anyone else.

Malaysia boleh! whee~!

But seriously, are we there yet? Not that I am pouring torrents of ice water on the topic, but there is a difference between being here and actually being THERE. Sure this is a big step, but the coverage had been so immense you'd think that we have discovered a new galaxie altogether!

Now hold that thought.

Perhaps it because he's him. You know, Dr Nescafe model. Smart. Handsome. Altogether, perfect model citizen from the surface. But sadly, not eligible. I am betting he will be more in the future. Does Datuk Dr Nescafe model angkasawan sound fairly enticing? His missus had better watch him well. And watch him well she must.

Malaysia boleh is what we are told to believe. That we can do what we set our mind to. Which is good. With wawasan 2020 driving us on,you'd think we'd be sprinting ahead other developing countries without even running short on breath. Wah...

but sadly wronglah.

We have been here. And there. And still we are stuck with the 'here' thinking. (with 'there' behind ahead) We take too much pride in our own achivements. Bask in them too long. Too vain. Which is too bad.

Sayangnye...
Malaysian boleh? Jangan terlalu perasan?

Mistaken identity

Yesterday, I had been asked a very disturbing question which I had been asked so many gazillion times before that I shouldn't even be disturbed by the question anymore.

Yet, I am.
Its too distubing ok.

Yesterday, an Indian security guard asked me

"Eh moi, you Cina ke?"

Like duh, I was speaking mandarin at that time lah. With a chinese friend. But then again, we are in Malaysia. Indians speak great cantonese here la wei. And I know some malay girls who think daniel is cute.

But I think he was just being nice. Instead of asking me "Cik, mengapa tak balik kampung sambut raya?", he decided to indirectly ask me if I am chinese.

My race has always been a question to alot of people.

Half the time people think I am malay.
Or half malay
Or thai
Or half thai
and when I get really sun tanned, I was asked if I was a chindian.

Once, someone thought I was an eurasian.
I thought the person was mad.

Haiyo.
Always the quizzical looks when I tell them I am pure cina.
A bit of a banana at heart, but nevertheless, I am chinese.

Sometimes I wonder if one of my ancestors had been naughty with someone of another race =p

Pavillion, A photoblog

As obvious as day, this post will be full of pretty pictures. Cause I am lazy and feeling not very particularly opinated today. Yes, it is a rarity to catch me in such moods, appreciate it.

Due to curiousity, me and some friends went to Pavillion, one of the lastest addition to KL's upper class shopping scene.

Btw, I didnt add the glare in the picture above =) It was all naturally so pretty. Oh yeah, taken at the Bukit Bintang entrance.

Nak masuk atau tidak?

nice interior.
You'd probably wonder why I bolded the word 'upper class shopping'. This place boosts brands which I have never seen before in KL. Name a famous international brand and I'd bet they have a flagship store here.

But still, the place is kinda empty as many stores are still under renovation. Cause this is Pavillion, where everything is so pretty cause rich investors can afford to dump serious cash into interior designing.
I mean, look at the toilets here!
I was trying not to look conspicuous.
Full lenght mirrors. Soap. Tissues. Clean toilets. and hardworking toilet cleaners.
Damn, gotta love Pavillion's toilets.
This aint no fancy restaurant. Its just an ice cream bar. Dont believe spot the giant ice cream cone in the picture la. I tried to lick it =)
The place where we had our dinner. Pasta Mania
I like the idea of a pocket menu. The waiters have it good here. No need to run up and down. Cause its self service here and menus are tiny brochures which customers can steal.

We can select out own pasta here. Linguini's a pasta! And I just thought its a cheesy name which Pixar came out for the fake chef!

What I ordered.Bacon and mushroom pasta and soup of the day (mushroom soup)

nothing special. Too much tomato paste kills the tastebuds. the mushroom soup is terrible. It was bitter. Yes, we all agreed on that point. For goodness sake never order their mushroom soup.

The rest of the food? Leaves much to be desired. Beware of their cheesy pasta. You might be in cheesy heaven for several wonderful bites. Then everything goes downhill from there. Yes, even a cheese lover like me can get slightly cheese-phobic after trying it. Too much cream.

Recommended to the brave.

The price? Not too over the top but not to be eaten daily as well. Affordable la. More of less within secret recipe's range.

In the end of the day, we didnt buy anything. Haha. just go there for sightseeing and eating. Cause the things there are damn expensive for a student like me ok?

I swear I am geting better at taking holy pictures. And at editing them.

Anyway, Happy Hari Raya people!

Shards of realisation

These are unusual senarios I have woken up to
1) Shaken up by yelling and screaming of my sister saying "Sam's STUCK in the window grill!!!!"
2) Half suffocating cause someone dumped a wet handkerchief on my face.
3) To: "Kayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Harry Potter 7!!!!"
4) To Sam licking my face with her horrible morning dogbreath
5) To the tune of the "mickey mouse march"

Yesterday, I woke up to the sounds of broken glass.
Cause I accidently kicked the panes (window nearby mah) and the whole damn thing slipped and.....you know.

Anyway, after the mess was cleaned up, my roommate noticed that all the windows were opened. As she remembered, she was the one who shut all the windows last night.

oh fuck.

So she checked her purse and found that she was only left with a measly one ringgit plus. HUH? She had tens the day before!

Oh double fuck.

The total amount she lost: RM40 plus. And a touch and go card.

Okla, not so fucked up.

Then we realised her missing crystal necklace which she lost several weeks ago might not be an 'accident' at all.

oh fuck

Welcome. To. Setapak.

Where mata-mata mata's are probably too congested with mata tahi.
Where occurances such as this is pretty normal.
Where politicians only come and visit when students start dropping dead or nearly get raped.
Where security is just a WORD. People dont act on it.
Where future recurrances of crimes are just waiting to happen.

Perhaps if someone dropped dead tomorrow, people would just notice what an eyesore safety in this place can be.Anyway, I think they would just notice for awhile. And then proceed to forget the whole issue anyway.

After all, Malaysians are like Dory. They have short term memories.

Lets talk dirty

Reader's discretion: This post may contain inappropriate material which might cause your application to heaven to be rejected cause your thoughts have been tainted and is deemed unfit due to extreme unholiness.

Please, think over this properly.
Your afterlife depends on it.

Trivia of the day:
Did you know?
In facebook, there is this application where people can rate your purity.

Yes, rating people's purity. Dont act bloody surprised. You probably have been doing that for years, perhaps even doing it subconsciously without knowing.

Ever had an annoying friend who can never ever take a dirty joke? Its like, when the whole bunch of you are laughing away like mad, they have to come and tell you that how inappropriate it is to do so before launching into a full fledged lecture about culture and mannerism.

Potong steam betul wtf

The worst part comes when you are a girl. I mean, so while everything is all fine and dandy if you are a guy (cause having testrones in your blood makes the poor things more prone to discuss such things) Gosh. Then ah, girls are criticized for even knowing a lil?

I have known girls who pretend to dont know ANYTHING. Like seriously I dont know who they are trying to kid. They run around going "ewww! please la stop discussing this" while cramping up their pretty faces with stupid expressions whenever anything related to the topic of sex pops up. And they ask other girls as to who are they trying to seduce if they wears anything which has less material compared to a t shirt.

Eh kawan, grow a head man. Oh yeah, while you are at it, grow a brain. Then do me a favour and fill it abit yeah? Thanks.

And do you know what i usually notice? The ones who go "ewww" are the ones who usually get knocked up the fastest? Oh the irony! Can I have everyone to mentally holler "hypocrite!" now?

Sometimes, some guys even encourage such thinking. They'll tell you "aiya, girls shouldnt..... yadadadadada" Seilohdailou liddat I think I should start to domesticate myself and learn to knit baju kurungs.

I hope you arent one of those who condemn such harmless jokes. If you are one of them, Eh dont act so holy lah. Even the dalai lama can take a joke about his good friend who lives southwards. Why cant you?

(Dont believe me, check reader's digest a few years back, they had interviewed him)

Oh yeah, hiddenmickey is turns one a week ago! Wow, its been a year since I decided to pick up my keyboard and start typing due to boredom!

wah.

Simple pleasures.

I am back! Yesla I know I should have updated sooner but having monkeys as neighbours in camp was tiring and I ended up collecting alot of sleep debt in the course of those four days. So when I was back, I was constantly hitting the pillows more often than hitting the keyboard.

=p

I am not going to bore you with a hit by hit account of everything that happened in camp. But I certainly learnt how to appreciate the simple things which we take for granted everyday.

Yes,as ignorant beings we sometimes fail to understand that sometimes, simple things do make people happy. Sometimes, even more than other things.

Today, I was presented with an uncomforting ultimatum which made me just wanna crawl to a corner and just whither away in self pity before drowning myself and Sam in the nearest Indah Water pond.

Ish, life is a bitch sometimes.

Anyhow, to make myself feel better, I decided to write down a list of simple things which make me happy. And I felt better.

Things that make me feel happy, in no particular order
1.Lying down on the floor of my bedroom alone while listening to music. Loud
2.Hearing an old song which I like(but have no idea who the artist is)being played on the radio
3.Sleeping in
4.Reading a good book while having something good to nibble on
5.The smell of coffee in the morning
6.The taste of cold fresh milk
7.Aimlessly doodling on old latihan books
